Chelsea/Cole Statement: "no agreement can be reached"

An official statement released by Chelsea has claimed Arsenal have turned down an offer for Ashley Cole, stating it is too low.

The official statement read as follows:

"Chelsea FC has been in discussions with Arsenal Football Club for some time over the possible transfer of Ashley Cole.

“Chelsea has made a very substantial offer for the player. Although discussions have continued, Arsenal’s valuation of the player does not match Chelsea’s and therefore no agreement can be reached in the current circumstances ."

It is rumoured to be in the region of £16million pounds, and this is coming from the club who paid £21m for Shaun Wright Phillips and a market where English players such as Carrick can be sold for £18m.

We aint gonna sell the worlds best left back on the cheap, even if he is a c*nt.

Blimey, Carrick as well - they DO operate secretly, don't they !

  3. # Anonymous Swedish Goon

    not Carrick mate

  4. # Anonymous Martin

Exactly - the fact is he is the best LB in the world along with Zambrotta. He is 25 and has 2 years left = min GBP 20M. To be honest, he can play for the reserves or go to Real for 10M. We can't let those scum get him for cheap.

  5. # Anonymous Red Square

lol havent got the slightest why I said carrick...oh dear dear.

  6. # Anonymous meatyrod

carrick ? here's me thinking that manure bought him this summer....

  7. # Anonymous meatyrod

    oh

  8. # Anonymous Red Square

there edited the article to make more sense of what I was getting at.

Seriously though, if spuds can get £18million for carrick how can we get only £16m for cole?

  9. # Anonymous JB

If you aint gonna pay £25 million then I hope Arsene makes him sit on the bench the greedy 2 face c*nt

Unfortunately, Wenger has no discipline or backbone. Whereas someone like Mourinho or an Alex Ferguson (as in the past with key players like Stam and Beckham etc), Wenger will welcome him back with open arms without any punishment whatsoever. Sure, Wenger defends his players and that is loyal and good of a manager, but there are times when a manager should make certain cunts suffer. No-way in hell will Wenger let the shit rot in the reserves etc. He be back playing regularly whilst in the meantime, Mister Magoo as United fans call him lol, will just appear weak and undisciplined.

  11. # Anonymous Gelbs

Cole must feel a right cunt as well if he comes back to training with Arsenal. Especially when his book comes out. He really will feel the wrath of the Arsenal supporters. Cunt probably come out and say "how much I love Arsenal and I never wanted to leave" just because the deal has collapsed.

  12. # Anonymous Walc of Life

We will play him until Clichy is fit... Supporters will make banners saying 'cole out' etc. and hurl abuse at him, it will be like Villa with Ellis.

When Clichy is back, Cole will rot in the reserves for the rest of the season (missing every England game) and then join Crystal Palace for a cut price deal next summer.

    Sounds about fair to me.

Have I not been paying attention on the blogs this summer? Can someone tell me if the one calling himself Gelbs is a Gooner? I'm getting the sneaking impression that he's not. This has nothing with the comments in his "piece" above, or that he is critical of Wenger and his policy, but I've read several of his contributions during the summer and to me he appears to be a Manure-hootie disguising himself as a Gooner. Anyone alse getting the same impression? I mean, if you're a ManU-villain, be a man and tell us!

  14. # Anonymous clockendgooner

Good! the little poxridden cunt isn't getting what he wants!
What i really want is for us n' Chavski to agree a fee (25m+) and Real Madrid to come in, last minute, bid 18m and flog him off to them, leaving chelsea high n' dry n' Cole to be racisally abused, week in & week out...
and then he can say we stiched him, properly...

HOPE YOUR SHIT CUNT SLAG BIRD GIVES YOU AN STD COLE, YA LITTLE CUNT!

Apologies for my langauge people! As you can tell, i don't like the young man!

  15. # Anonymous herdee stringcity

lets leave this muthafucker to rot on the bench for two years.

take the hit on the money, leave chelsea having to shell out for a shit lb and fuck the shitbag's career up in the same process.

  16. # Anonymous Swedish Goon

Hopefully we can offload the greedy bastard to Franco's boys as we did with Anelka.

  17. # Anonymous Gelbs

No I hate Man United totally. But Wenger is far too nice for his own good. Cole deserves to rot we all know that. So what does that make Wenger if he forgives and plays him? Be the same shit next summer. Cole will want out and his value of dropped. He wins either way.

  18. # Anonymous Goonerboy

lets not forget that Arsenal still have the power to veto any aspect of his book, that they consider controversial. So I would imagine the book will be toned down considerably.

Lets also not forget that yes, Cole has been a silly boy, but still he is the best leftback in the world. So do we want to be seen as a team that develops the players in the world then lets them go - we have to be seen as a non-selling club. I would hate to think that Henry, post Cole departure, then decides that Arsenal and Arsene Wenger has let him down and feels betrayed and decides he wants to leave. Personally myself, yes Cole is has been a s**t, but he is an Arsenal player, and I would rather have Cole as left back, then Flamini or Clichy.

So come on your gooners, get behind your team, your manager, as he knows best and lets aim to win the league this season and show the real c**nts, Chelsea, what history and dignity and integrity, really looks like

  19. # Anonymous Red Square

Gelbs, Wenger isn't a bastard. If a player doesnt want to remain at the club he isn't going to stand in the way.

  20. # Anonymous Man On The Moon

Arsenal should stay strong and not let Cole go on the cheap. Chelsea should either pay up or SHUT UP!!

  21. # Anonymous Gelbs

Reyes wants to leave and Wenger is standing in his way and refusing to sell him.
Back to Cole. This is tactics from Chelsea. They will hold out until the end of the transfer window and offer what Arsenal want. Arsenal will be then unsure whether or not to sell Cole and lose a potential 20 million next summer. Of course if they do sell Cole at the end of this month, then Chelsea know Arsenal won't have much time to spend on strengthening their squad. I bet that is what might happen. Chelsea bid more for Cole at the end of August.

  22. # Anonymous gazzap

he will get a bit of flak for a few games but as per last season with Arsecole, players and fans just get on with winning games when they are coming thick and fast. I am not saying we will forget it or he will become a popular player with us but you just focus on whatever it takes for the team to win. he is after all a bloody good left back, Henry was right about that.
If money bags wont pay an extra couple of mil for him from his unlimited funds then sod 'em. you cant have him. at least chelsea wont have him, that is a major plus.

  23. # Anonymous gazzap

oh and if mourinho thinks by issuing a statement about them pulling out of negotiations will force our hand to reduce the price then he is very much mistaken. Its £22m or nothing.

  24. # Anonymous Man On The Moon

Gelbs I dont think Chelsea waiting till the last minute is going to have as much an effect on the team as you think because Cole did not play that much last season but we still did well in the circumstance. We would be better prepared for that eventuality now. I am looking forward to next season. And Gelb I'm sure you are probably not happy with last nights performance and win.

  25. # Anonymous gazzap

Gelbs you are right about something for once. chelsea probably will buy late to prevent us spending. what they dont realise is that we have £60m cash in bank so we can buy whoever we want. wenger just chooses not to. if AW identifies anyone who could strengthen our squad he would buy them anyway.

  26. # Anonymous Squiddy

Delighted that no money will change hands and Cole will be in the stiffs or boo'd all season. Bonus!

  27. # Anonymous Gelbs

I was happy with last nights win. But not carried away by no means. My point is nothing to do with whether or not we can cope with or without Cole, but purely it being possible tactics from Chelsea thinking that we want to strengthen but relying on the sale of Cole before we spend.

  28. # Anonymous manure fan

Yes, I am a United fan, but you'll be glad to read that I've got no comment to make on your team at all. I'm just here to confirm that Gelbs is in fact an Arsenal lad through and through (I can understand why you wonder!)

I have to give the lad credit for standing up for what he believes in though. He doesn't think Wenger is cutting it with certain members of his team or with transfers (although I have to raise a glass to you getting Rosicky, think you've done great there.)

Up here opinion is divided amongst the core support (excluding daytrippers - we know there's way too many of them before anybody starts :) ) as to how Ferguson is performing at the moment. Some think he's doing a great job, some think the Yanks are holding the purse strings too tightly, and others think he's lost the plot completely. I guess a number of you have similar thoughts to (a) and (b) regarding Wenger. That's what being a fan is about though. Don't slate somebody just because he's critical of the manager/tactics/etc - let them have their say and if they turn out to be wrong, let them hold their hands up and say so. If they refuse to accept they're wrong, THEN you can call them a muppet! :o)

Good luck for the season (except for against us, obviously!) - Let's hope we all put Chelscum in their place :o)

  29. # Anonymous magic_hat_man

The beginning of the end for the Chavski experiment. Roman's nt so keen to splash the cash any more. He'll be gone in two years and Chelsea will be broke. The dirty Roubles have run out!

As for Cole - well deary me - I don't think it would be very advisable for him to come anywhere near the Emirates. Seems to have got himself in rather a mess. Hope he will enjoy his long stint at the training ground. Plus the vest will suit him far better than the Arsenal shirt he has lost the right to ever wear again.

  33. # Anonymous Jamie

16 million is bollocks for a player like Cole. 25 or bust I reckon, and I'd be happy to keep him. When Henry was twatting about with Barcelona last season, humming and hawing about whether to stay or not, we didn't call him a wanker and tell him to fuck off, now fair enough, Cole was a complete arse, and has made matters worse for himself by paying someone else to write a book for him saying that he was the victim of it all. I think that if the Man U fans can put up with Ronaldo diving and crying for another season, we can put up with Cole.

By the way, I mentioned it on the Ribery page, but if you have a look at Gelbs' blog, there's nothing there but an advert that says 'Ladies Shoes. Viva La Diva'. Quite.

  34. # Anonymous Gelbs

I just made some money thanks to you Jamie. I see you clicked on the ad and bought some new shoes for your boyfriend. Hope they fit ok x

  38. # Anonymous Padraig

Sorry peeps but I just gotta vent some frustration...

Wenger and the board are really starting to piss me off. So far this summer has been an absolute feckin disaster.

Campbell, Pires & Bergkamp out. No signings (except Rosicky), Cole & Chavski pissing about. Now Jose & Madrid pissing about. Now Henry requesting some signings through the Sun newspaper!!! He is even drawing comparables between losing Cole to losing Vieira last summer. Please let’s not go there. So WTF is going on?

Is Wenger seriously trying say that there are no players out there better than say Song? Cygan? Flamini? So what happens if Cole does go? He 'might' buy a replacement?

Sorry for sounding negative but I just cant see us improving on last season right now, especially with all the apparent disharmony currently coming out of the club.

Henry said it himself, Wenger KNOWS we need signings. I have held this belief since last summer.

Saying there are no players out there is just plain garbage. If there’s no money for signings why not just say that. Instead we get stuff like 'I want to bring in two or so world class players' then, 'There is an imbalance between youth and experience in the squad' so...'I have not bid for anyone, and I might not'.

I just don’t get it. Sure, Wenger is perhaps playing his cards close to his chest but judging by last season, I honestly doubt that. I really hope that I am proved wrong.

I guess the frustrating thing for me is that we have some real quality players and I truly believe that a couple of quality additions (even 2 - a cb & DM) would make us very competitive in all the major competitions this year. I'm not saying we will win the league but we could close the gap.

Beyond the starting eleven and the bench the squad is very thin. This showed with our injuries last year. Wenger spent some money in Jan and there was a marked improvement after xmas.

As for all this 'Wenger knows' & 'trust Wenger, I don’t buy into that. I don’t think we should blindly follow everything that le boss says. If he asked you step off a cliff because he 'knew' you would survive, would you?

At the end of the day Wenger is just a man with an opinion. We can all have one of those.

Don’t get me wrong, the guy is an absolute legend and he will undoubtedly go down as one of the best and most successful Arsenal managers ever but this is still the same guy that bought Jeffers, it’s still the same guy that played Stepenovs at old Trafford and lost 6-1.

For reasons such as these, I reserve my right to be critical of the way the summer has gone so far. I will gladly eat humble pie should we finish higher than fourth this year. Like all (or at least the majority) of us here I just want the team to do well and improve. All the while the transfer window ticks away and Wenger papers over the cracks without giving any real indication of his plans, I am very concerned.

Padraig's comments are sadly indicative of someone who reads too many tabloids. When has Wenger ever said that there are no players out there to sign ? Never. He has repeatedly said that he's looking to sign one or two players before the transfer window closes. The false impression created by a media that incessantly links us with players (Saviola, Appiah, Abidal et al) that we have no interest in, is that we are missing out on players, or that our transfer policy is failing. This year alone Wenger has made major signings in Rosicky, Walcott, Adebayor and Diaby (not to mention Merida and Van den Berg etc). This represents a lot of money outlayed and a lot of new players. It's almost as if people like Padraig are so insecure during the close season, that they need to see us signing Arsenal spending inordinate amounts of cash to make themselves feel better. Yes it's just a matter of opinion, unfortunately Padraig's opinion is fatuous and ill-informed...

Arsenal are about to sign Jean Alain Boumsong.

Don't ask how I know as I will not tell.

  44. # Anonymous Gooner in exile down under

I think Arsenal are right to demand 25 million and I find it ridiculous they are prepared to pay stupid money for other players and not Cole .As much as I hate to say it Cole should stay and shut up and get on with playing football only then will he win back the respect he has lost with fans of football in general and serve the englands teams best interests.Somewhere along the way the football has been forgotten about and he really should just knuckle down prove to people what a good player he still is .To be honest I have forgotten and now he has gotten Married and hogged the media spotlight for so long enough is enough lets just get on with it .Perhaps he should just heed the words of his teammates who oner by one are coming out and saying they want him to stay.
Re Wenger nothing would pacify the whole situation more then a couple of signings. If wenger has these in his sights he should finalise these transfers asap as only then will all this unsettling talk of players leaving die down and we can look forward to the new season .

Wenger is frustrated by it and we the fans are pissed off with all the media speculation that has been whipped up by the Spanish press in Reyes case ,who honestly thinks he is on his way now having been left out who's fault is that ?

I guess we will see in the next 7 days .If it was me I would sit down both Reyes and Cole and tell them they are going no where and we want them to stay and they can leave next year if they still want to go until then play your hearts out and lets win some bloody silverware
Arsene if your listening I know you know but bloody hurry up and make those signings and put this hulabaloo to rest

  47. # Anonymous Sir Cecil

Hilarious. Wenger yaps about Chelsea's spending and how their wealth is ruining football, but given the chance, his own club tries to take blackmail-like advantage of the situation.
Chelsea always sell at reasonable prices, so can't be accused of milking the market. The press is always talking of Chelsea LOSING money on players. If that's so, how is that harming football in general? That they pay best prices for players should be seen as a boost to the industry.Where does the money go? Straight to the selling clubs who should be blessing Abramovic for all the money he's brought to them. And it's money that wasn't in the game before.
No, it's the greedy clubs like Arsenal, who ask the ridiculous prices and are responsible for the inflation. Abramovic would be very happy to pay less, I'm sure. IT'S THE SELLING CLUBS THAT HIKE THE PRICES. They are the evil in the game. People like Dein.

  48. # Anonymous DAF

I actually think Gelbs IS a Gooner. Look at the amount of time it takes him to reply to posts. Quick. He's either a very bright Spud or Manure fan to present his thoughts about a supposedly opponents team so quickly (...exactly...) or he is just speaking from the heart.

We don't have to agree with him. We may not like his views. He's possibly wrong about most stuff. He certainly enjoys winding the rest of us up and seeing himself name checked so often. But at least it gives a degree of balance to proceedings.

BTW Gelbs, this will be the first and last time I name check you myself. But just because Wenger doesn't react they way you want him to (note, I don't say 'the way you would', because you obviously have no idea about what's really going on, nor do any of us) doesn't mean he lacks backbone.

There are more intelligent ways to deal with footballers such as Cole and clubs like Chelsea today.

    Vive la difference!

  49. # Anonymous DAF

    Interesting view Sir Cecil.

So now Arsenal are the bad guys for asking a club that doesn't understand the word value the market price plus an English player premium for a genuinely talented left back?

You're obviously not in business. It's all about supply and demand. If Chelsea regularly supply inflated transfer fees, other clubs will demand it. They don't HAVE to pay all that money for the likes of SWP.

Chelsea have vulgarly thrown money at clubs until they are unable to resist. However, Arsenal are resisting because they are not a cheap whore.

Nothing wrong with that. Ye reap what ye sow.

  50. # Anonymous robinvp

    gleb u spud cocksuker
Wenger is not sstanding in anyones way. he does not set the price for a player the clubs directors do according to the offer that is received from the buying club. you stupid fuking dimwit, if Arsenal say yes the player can go then the buying club would bid low.
why dont u piss off u know fuk all about football and business.
i bet u dont even go to football matches u plastic cunt.

  51. # Anonymous Sir Cecil

DAF mentions Arsenal's right to ask "an English player premium" for Cole.
I agree with him. English players are such a rare species at Arsenal, they must be worth much more than English players bought from anywere else.
Quite how Arsenal fans can stonach watching what is basically a French League team transplanted to a London stadium is beyond me. What excuse is there to watch such a team? Why not watch the real thing and take a ferry to France every weekend? The only Englishmen they'll see at Highbury next season are in the opposition lineups. Unless they keep Cole, and then the only English player there will be the unhappiest one in the country. Unless of course, you count that preposterous young wizard Walcott who hasn't played a single game yet. Which Frenchman will have his place? Ribery?
I suppose Arsenal fans even think there was an English team in the recent Champions League Final. I watched the game and noticed that there are as many Englishmen at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. Pitiful. There really isn't an Arsenal anymore. The stadium has gone, the English have gone. The manager is as French as his team. It's all over.

  52. # Anonymous Ash

They bought Jon Abi Mikel for £16m and SWP for £21m. How can they expect to sign a player of Cole's calibre for a mere £16m. Obviously Mourinho doesnt want to give Wenger money that would go into strengthening our team. They believe we are under pressure to sell but I think Wenger & Dein are right in holding out for £25m

  53. # Anonymous Peter W

I think 16 million is a fair price for Chelsea to pay. You can understand why the bastards won't pay more. After all, how much would Ashley Cole actually improve Chelsea's team? Gallas does a pretty good job, I'm sure, and Bridge is still around. Cover for LB can't be high on the shopping list; they didn't even bid for Zambrotta.
Then again, there's nothing fair about Chelsea.

  56. # Anonymous DAF

I too wish there were more English players at Arsenal. However, when "talents" like SWP or Carrick cost what they do, no wonder Arsenal look elsewhere. I mentioned the words "an English player premium" ironically. Sigh, oh for a sense of irony, eh?

The "Arsenal are a French" club jibe is old, tired and inaccurate and has lazy racist overtones.

If you really think it's all over for Arsenal Sir Cecil, you're extremely myopic.

    Look it up.

  57. # Anonymous skeeny

the reason arsenal want so much for cole is a: its chelski and b: if s***s can get 18 million for carrick then your damn right arsenal should get 25 million at least for cole. carrick had a half decent season last year but there's no way he's worth that much. the only reason is he's english!

  58. # Anonymous Deise Gooner

If Cole and Chelski didnt go behind Arsenals back i feel 16 mil would be taken for Cole. But because of this incident there is a fair amount of bad blood between both clubs and player. 16 mil from any other club except chelsea is resonable. But as it is Chelsea Arsenal will only sell at a higher price for a couple of reasons. They dont reall want Cole to go to Chelsea. Payback for the Tap Up.

  59. # Anonymous gloryhunter

Payback aside, we should sell at 16.
Arsenal will challenge Chelsea in 3 year time, not before. We could challenge this season if we bought the right players, but we don't. So we're killing time and waiting for the kids to grow up.
Ashley Cole isn't going to help either team in the 2009 title fight. So why not let him go now?
If you look past your wounded pride, it's better to take 16 million now than to wait a year, pay his salary and lose 5 millin off his transfer. Why cut off our noses to spite Chelsea? Why give them the satisfaction?
The thing is, it's this stupid pride which has lead everyone into this position. I'm sure no one wanted to be here. But no one wants to admit to fault. Ash won't. Dein won't. Mourinho, that smug bastard, don't know what that word even means. It's so frustrating.

  60. # Anonymous robinvp

if u sell him for 16m it will show who is calling the shots. chelshit will be full of glee that they unsettled our player then dictated the price that they wanted to pay.
no chance the directors of Arsenal are all shrewd business people and they know what cole would be worth.
if we keep him we weaken them due to their left back problems.
keep cole and let the chavs sweat it out.

The fact is very simple, arsenal must sell ashley cole as soon as possible as having a player who doesnt want to be at the club is extremly damaging to morale. However, chelea's only credible weakness seems to be there left back slot, where gallas, although a tremendous player has had to cover. In world football, a high quality full back, especially on the left side is difficult to come by, especially with zambrotta chosing the bright lights of catalan as opposed to the pornographic money on offer down the king's road. The world cup saw the world's left backs battle it out to top chelsea wish list, abbidal seemed average whilst players such as sorin are too old for the chelski revolution. So that leaves chelsea with only one credible option, especialy now the forgettable del horno has opted out of the hustle and bustle of the premierhip, namely Ashley Cole, however the £25 million price tag with leave Wenger comfortable compensated for a player who has two years to run on his contract and played a dozen games in a season which saw arsenal reach a champions league final. Chelsea are well aware of the frenchmen's abilty to unearth potential in players others have missed, vieria and toure and the energetic eboue standing out whilst in recent times chelsea's £21 million spent on Wright Phillips seems ludacris compared to the £6.9 million Wenger paid for the wizardly rosicky. It seems the case that Cole wishes to join Chelsea, with the documented £90 a week on other enough to turn the head of a 'boyhood Arsenal fan'. Chelsea will no doubt coff up the 20 or so million pounds (similar to the manner in which the Essien deal was concluded) whilst wenger will most likely spend the money not on the tricky ribery, but rather on a couple of african kids who will no doubt be the next generation at Ashburton grove, finally putting an end to a soap opera that seems to have outlasted its time slot.
